That Ship Has Set Sail

Got the opportunity to shoot on a boat thanks to Peter and Boatmaster Chris. I'm a bit behind on editing my other shoots so I'm just gonna post some teasers. Fun group of people and great friends. I'm gonna be collabing on more projects soon so stay tuned. I just want to steer the boat, but I got sick and lazy after that.

Vegas: Sinning for a Living

Went to Vegas with the Celebrity and Model Expo peoples. It was interesting. Didn't shoot as much, got lots of flakes, and ate well. I think my lucky streak is over because it looks like the machines did me bad. Blackout City.

Import Scenes

I'm registering for classes tomorrow. Hopefully I get into the program this time around. Goal is to achieve a D3 or D700 by April and a 24-70 f/2.8 by May. Gotta be frugal and stay on my grind. skrind. I have a mega budget for the next few months, so I'll be in hermit mode for the time being. 2-3 shoots a week should be ok to handle. I need to start doing trade for gas shoots too.

Me Vs. Me, But the Older Version

Today my site is supposed to renew. Hopefully at the end of the day this site will expire and I can transfer this one over. If not. I'll just transfer all the material over tomorrow morning or friday. I choose this day to open my site because it is my Dad's birthday. It is also sadly his death anniversary as well. That is partially the reason I really don't like celebrating my birthday. Hope everyone has a great day!

Behind

I'm behind on a lotta things. I gotta catch up and step up my game. Thinking of making a separate blog for Lego Camera adventures. Also in the process of updating my resume and booking more shoots. Nailed It.

Back in White

Got (2) 7 ft. stripboxes from my buddy Karl. For an amazing deal. It is larger than me and can almost touch the ceiling. Another asset to the Nefarious Visions studio. I really like the quality of light it emits and the grids make it look dope:

The Road not Taken

So Rochelle, one of my close friends has agreed to to a shoot with me. I've known of her skyrocketing fame since I attended UCR. I had 3 classes with her at RCC. We're really cool friends, same age as me, but really working with a model at this kind of caliber makes me wanna improve my technique more. I want to make her my muse. She will make my portfolio good. If you have no idea who she is:

Brave New World Order

Photobucket

About to launch my business site. It will contain my portfolio and albums from various events. I divided my site into 3:

Nick Barcelona - The personal blog. Will be redirected to wordpress once coding is done. Family/Portfolio worthy.
Kawawa! - The club scene/parties/etc. Revamp of old school "Int3rlud3"
Nefarious Visions - Team effort/bigger special events/concerts/press name.

You haven't see anything yet...

The Contest

“My name is Nick Barcelona, I am a photographer and I’d love to photograph you.  No charge.  Check out my work and email me if you’re interested.”

For those that are unaware...I am in a photo contest to be a contracted photographer for a well known agency ("The Company" for security reasons and I don't want my competition lurking my work). The rules are simple: Demonstrate my lighting techniques, composition, and focus within each photo. I will be photographing women. The tough part is I can'y use any make-up and hair artists, stylists, paid contracted models, etc. Everything must be done on my own. There will be a release form for anyone interested. This is a legitimate contest, and I am not some new kid who picks up a camera just to meet women, I am driven by creativity and my artistic passion for photography. I will provide paperwork as proof for all those who think this is ridiculous. I am unable to show my old work to the officials (because they saw it all), and they are testing me to see if I am worthy to be a photographer for this company. So I am calling out all women interested in a FREE shoot. If you are cute/fit, it is a plus, I'm not trying to be mean, but it is necessary if I want to join the ranks. I will not be posting your images anywhere because it will be for the official's eyes only. (It will also boost up my portfolio). I am looking for at least 50-100 women interested, more is better, so if a group of friends want to shoot I'll make an exception to my rules. I am the youngest out of the 10 competitors. I want to prove to the old cats that I can breakthrough in the company even with the least expensive equipment. Help a brother out, contest ends at end of the year. I am willing to step out of my boundaries and get exposed to various photography levels.

On location shooting is preferred, but studio is also ok. The shoot will typically last for about 1-2 hrs because of all the custom lighting. I just need at least 2 awesome images from each set. You will receive all your images on a disc. There will be a BTS shooter if possible to make sure I am not cheating in this challenge. For those that never modeled, new, or interested.. here are some tips:

  • Find ideas you are comfortable with before the shoot. Also, keep in contact with me, it makes it a much more comfortable environment for the photographer and the model
  • Come with hair and make-up done and ready to shoot. Don't forget to pack the necessary supplies to make changes.
  • Bring several wardrobe options. The more the merrier. Something unique and sexy.
  • Eat something before you show up. Don't starve yourself.
  • You may bring one person to the shoot. I usually do not allow anybody because I learned from experience that they serve as a distraction to me or the model. I am only allowing one because we are not very well acquainted and the person can carry my stuff. No boyfriends.
  • However, if you are a group of women, it would be nice too. This way I can meet the minimum requirement of 50 girls much faster...then shoot for 75.
  • Driver's License so I can verify you are over 18.
  • Posing is tough. It is achieved by both photographer and model. I can only think of a certain amount on the fly.
  • Optional: bring images of some work you like. I will try my best to replicate it to the best of my ability.
  • If you know what you are doing I will just shut up and shoot.
  • Collaborate ideas and inspire.
  • Music or conversation are how my shoots usually go. That awkward silence ruins the mood. I prefer conversations. I can bring beer too if you prefer.
  • Flakes. I dislike. I've been getting a lot since this contest started.
Here is my schedule:
Mondays-Free after 12PM
Tuesdays-Unavailable
Wednesdays-Free after 12PM
Thursdays-Unavailable
Fridays-Sometimes
Saturdays-Free
Sundays-Free
*Hit me up to ensure availability*

There is an extensive list of themes I want to tackle. Message me or give me a call if you are interested.

Ringu

I haven't really updated. Been busy with school and random free shoots. But, last month JimmerJammer hooked it up by assisting me in my ringflash creation. It saved me mad money. I spent about $35 for all the materials. This is the result:

..... And now it's only a matter of time before this "Lost World"

I've always been doing some kind of blogs since 7th grade. I am dedicating a page to point and shoot photos I snap along the way. Here is my order of pages if you've been following:

Xanga: I had like 5 accounts mostly just various news and reposting
LiveJournal: Pissed off entries. Me complaining about being a teen, etc.
Myspace: My blogs got really popular and had a lot of subscribers and such
Blogger: First official URL. Majority is photo blog Currently posting on this until I gain more HTML knowledge. Had some decent feedback. Forum people hating on me. Cool Stuff
Tumblr: Mostly just listing ideas and thoughts. Another is for 35mm film posting, and another for old 2002 Sony cybershot snaps
Wordpress: I prefer posting on here, but it is a bit pricey for html editing plus domain name. Once I improve my knowledge and gain more patience I'll make the switch and transfer.
